Free DVD Rentals at Redbox! Woot!

I was going to post this next week but it’s TOO good to keep hidden.  EVERYONE needs to know about this.

Redbox offers free 1-day DVD rentals!  Redbox is a company that vendors DVDs out of red kiosks at various convenience stores, fast food restaurants, and grocery stores around the nation.  Did I mention that they offer free 1-day DVD rentals!

I understand that this is old news for some of you (if not all), but it’s NEW to me, so back off!  I tried it for the first time last Monday.  I picked up Mall Cop with Kevin James.  It was Craptastic.  I digress.

Here’s How it Works:

Redbox generates codes to enable more people to use their services and get people through the doors of their partners.

These codes can be found at:

Inside RedBox : A list of working Redbox codes and last time used

OR

Redbox.com : Have Redbox text you via SMS or Email you a code the 1st monday of every month

Now that you’ve obtained the code

  1. Go to a Redbox Kiosk
  2. Touch “Rent with a Promo Code”
  3. Select a Movie
  4. Swipe your card
  5. Take the movie
  6. Watch the movie
  7. Return the movie by 9pm the next day

Things to Know:

  • Code can be used multiple times with different credit/debit cards.
  • You are charged $1 each night you keep it after 9pm the next day.
  • It helps to know what movie you want to rent before reaching the kiosk.  The line may be long.
  • You can return the DVDs at any Redbox location.

How awesome is that!?!  You can pick up groceries and a free DVD rental while you’re at it.  With Hulu and now Redbox, I may even discontinue my Netflix subscription.

Are you a Redbox-er?  How long have you known about these codes and why haven’t you told me before!?!?

Thanks for the tip Zen. This is new news for me, but they need to put a RedBox closer to where we live. I been using the $1 rental at Safeway for a few months now but free is way better! I’m definitely keeping my eye open for more RedBox machines now. Haven’t been to Blockbuster (BBI shares under $1 now) for months now…I’ll be surprised if they survive.

I’m with you on Redbox. I have always wondered why their lines were so long.

It’s a matter of time for BBI. With Netflix and Redbox undercutting their rates it’s hard to stay afloat. Shoot, now they have to deal with HULU switching to a subscription-based model in 2010, I’m sure they are going to expand into bigger revenue streams outside of network television under the new model.

I love Redbox. I hopped onto the Redbox train much later than most people too. But I am so glad I finally did! And thank you for the free codes. Gonna go try my luck tonight with it. :)
