I have already mentioned that I’m a self-confessed “Gleek”.  However, what I haven’t mentioned is that my fellow Gleeks and I like to try out different wine pairings with our dinners while we watch.  I’ll be first to admit that I don’t have the developed palate of a sommelier nor do I have the arsenal of adjectives that they employ to describe what the wine tastes like.

A sommelier would say something like this:

I can taste a hint of cinnamon with its subtle earthiness undertones.

I would say:

This wine tastes like a chorus of angels singing in my mouth.

Yep…. I don’t have it.  However, I do know that the following BevMo specials tasted great when I got my grub on.

Here are some tasty BevMo 5¢ wines to try:

REDS

2008 Montgras Reserva, Cabernet/Syrah, Chile, Colchagua Valley

Enjoy drinking this with a grilled aged ribeye and mushrooms. The full body of the wine easily holds its own against the juicy texture of the steak.  Tasting notes from BevMo include muscular flavor and black fruits in the aftertaste.

2008 Tapiz, Malbec, Argentina, Mendoza

I’ve been recently on the look out for Mendoza Malbecs because I do tend to favor a bold tasting wine.  Experience its strong flavor and intensity but resist the temptation of the dark side of the force with this Malbec.

WHITES

2008 Stanza, Gewurztraminer, California, Monterey

Gewurz-a-what? Try it! This has a fresh flavor with a note of sweetness. Enjoy with pan-asian foods such as pad-thai and yellow chicken curry.

2007 Columbia Crest, Riesling, Washington, Columbia

A nice pairing with chicken parmesan pasta. This wine really bought out the flavors of the italian marinara sauce and ended with a clean finish, an awesome table wine.

BevMo’s sale ends Monday and even if you don’t intend on drinking anytime soon, you should stock up for all the upcoming holidays, birthdays, and other shindigs. Bringing wine to your hosts is always a welcome gesture, in good form, and a great budget gift idea.

Have a relaxing weekend,
